Be Kind To Yourself

Life can be so tricky right?! Thing’s that I’ve learnt from uni is that you HAVE to get the balance right between work, exercise and play. Don’t get me wrong, it’s so so hard to get it right and I feel like it’s the kind of thing that you continuously learn as life goes on. I mean, I’m definitely still learning how to readjust my lifestyle it all and to listen to my body when it comes to doing the right thing.

Getting the balance is so important your mentally and your mental health, doing too much of one thing can tip you over the edge in multiple ways. It’s definitely so easy to fall into the trap of doing too much work and losing your mind because everything blurs into one and you can’t tell what you should be doing. This is 100% a sign that you NEED TO STOP! Take a break and allow your brain to re-fresh, there is just no point in beating yourself up; especially if your work isn’t productive.

It’s easier said than done but everyone is more productive when you’re not tired and when your mind is fresh. I use to try working late at night when I was really tired because I felt so guilty for not doing anything that day. The truth is, I never actually did that much work when I was tired and I would end up getting annoyed with myself for “underperforming” and not doing as much as I wanted to. I soon learnt that I might as well have an early night, regenerate and work much more effectively the next day. My mind would then be fresh and I was able to concentrate much better. Don’t get me wrong, it’s so so hard to get into that mentally because we are forever being told that if you put the time and effort in you will succeed. But reality is, that it’s time and EFFORT, not just time. It’s so much better to put the effort in when you’re in the right frame of mind and not just when you feel guilty. Working when you feel guilty doesn’t work, believe me there haha 😉 . Just step away from the work and do it when you’re ready for it and when your mind is nice and fresh!

Okay, so if you have decided to bash out some work for a couple of hours because you just have to, then here are some tips to make those couple of hours a bit more bearable!

  1. TAKE SHORT BREAKS! Even if you are doing a lot of working in one go and have to deadlines to meet, it’s much better to take a ten minute break every hour. This will stop your mind from being bogged down and allow it to “re-fresh” itself before heading back into work. Taking breaks has been scientifically proven to improve your productivity when working, so it’s definitely worth taking ! It’s better to work for a shorter amount of time if it’s going to be more constructive. 😀
  2. After doing a couple of hours of work, best to leave the desk and have a change of scenery. Another nice thing to do which was suggested by my friend Emily from @that’sjustemily  was to take a half an hour walk in-between work to get a little fresh air. This also means that you feel fresh both physically and mentally which is the most important thing if you want to work well! Now that it’s winter it’s definitely so crissppp outside so you will be so awake for work! hahaha 😉
  3. If you are having a moment of doubt that you’r not good enough or that you can’t do the work just remember that everyone else who’s doing the assignment is in the same boat as you! Just believe that you will perform and you will !! Having a positive mentally will get you half of the way to success and the other half is just hard work. Since you’re already working you just have to believe that you will get the grade that you want! STAY POSITIVE! <3

I know it can be really difficult to figure out if what you’re doing is right, but just remember to keep going and you’ll power through it!! Just stay positive and remember that YOU CAN DO IT! You will get that piece of work done in time for the deadline and you will perform if you BELIEVE that you can ! Just be kind to yourself because you can’t work or improve if you’re going to beat yourself up every-time something doesn’t go to plan. Just take each day as it comes and learn to relax into things and just do as much work as your brain can take and don’t push it any further ! <3

I shall see you all in my next post my dears 😀

Lots of Love, Izzy xxx
