Getting in Touch with your Creative Side

Get Creative !

With London Fashion just gone, it’s that time of year that I feel inspired by what bloggers are wearing this season and the kinds of things that I can try experimenting with and just get a little more creative ! The things I’ve seen that I’ve really loved this season are clashing textures and prints! I’m generally not one to clash those things, I definitely clash colours but why not branch out?

Not only has London Fashion week just come and gone, but recently I’ve been trying to get a little more creative/arty. I’ve realised that doing a science degree doesn’t give the left side of your brain a chance to do much and all it wants to do is being creative! With that, I decided to join the art classes and the fine art society at Uni so that I have the chance to get a little arty again! I must admit, it was a little intimidating because there are some REALLY good artists kicking around hahah 😉 . Once I got over the fact that I’m not going to be the best, I mean I didn’t even do GCSE art! Once I told myself that, “I’m just going for fun and to try something a little different,” I was fine! I was there to learn and just to do something that was a little out of my comfort zone and get back into something that I use to love as a child! It’s been one of the best decisions I’ve made at uni so far hahaha 😀 . You have to make time to have proper “relax time” , and I’ve learnt that being creative is something that I find really calming and it just allows time to go by !

Being creative doesn’t just mean sitting down with a painting brush and trying to be the next Picasso, it can be anything from filmography, photography, dance, pottery or just reading ! I would definitely say that all those things count as being creative and “arty,” I mean this blog itself is another way that I like to get a little more creative! Just try something that is a little different and as I always say,” out of your comfort zone,” and you never know you might have a hidden talent 😉 .

Being creative isn’t just a nice way to relax, it has also been scientifically proven to increase your attention span, help you be more focused and naturally develops hand eye coordination! If you’re studying or working and you struggle to focus on what you’re doing, it could be a sign that you’re not being creative enough and that you need to get a little more arty! It can definitely be difficult to find the places to do something creative, but I’m sure that if you google art classes in your local area you’ll find loads! For me, I didn’t even realise that my uni had a place where you can sign up for art workshops and dance classes until I really starting looking for creative things to do on campus! So I would just say keep your eye out because you might find something you really like 😀 .

How I Channel My Inner Creativity Into My Daily Routine

The real question is, how do you really add a little creativity into your life everyday ?! I guess the easiest way is to designate an hour or two a day where you just do something that you really enjoy! Such as, just sketch or paint for a bit, go out and take photographs or maybe go down to a dance studio and just dance for an hour or so! I think it’s so important to have some time in the day where you can just let your brain do something that really relaxes you. For me the best way to get creative is putting different outfits together! Okay, I’m sure that does sound a little silly as I guess I would call myself a style blogger and it’s totally obvious that I love fashion! ;). But honestly, I actually LOVE putting outfits together hahahaha, I find it so relaxing ! (Maybe I should quit being a chemist and become a stylist instead loll 😉 , just kidding I love science too much heheh.)

This outfit was one of those that I tested my limits with! So I’m going to start with this coat because it’s literally one of my favourite buys of all time! It was my big Paris purchase, and it’s just the coat of my dreams hehehe. Fluffy and bright orange it’s just right up my street, it’s one of those timeless pieces that despite the colour it has that classic fit that will never go out of style. I decided to wear a simple white fluffy jumper underneath because it was freeezzzing and I just needed a little warmth ! 😉 Also, white is the perfect neutral colour to wear when you wear a little colour!

I decided to add some contrasting texture by wearing leather tartan skirt which is honestly one of my all time favourites ! It has all those cool biker feels with the studs, the buckle and the tartan under print and It somehow works for nearly every outfit ! I’ve honestly never seen anything like it and we all know how much I like my unique pieces hahaha 😉 . To contradict the edginess of the skirt, I decided to wear my new fav Topshop mustard blazer (which was featured in another recent blog post! Click here to read 😉 .) I mean, who say’s that you can’t wear two coats?! It was definitely something that I don’t usually do, but now that I’ve done it I’m most definitely going to do it again ! The final touches to this look were my embroidered boots and my little denim bag, these boots once again contradict the “indie” feel of the skirt and work really nicely with the formalities of the coat and the blazer. I honestly think that mixing up different styles is a really fun way add that “WOW” factor to your look. Finally, the little denim bag is a nice way to add a little fun and quirkiness to the outfit, I just love the badges and texture that it has, it just adds a little bit of “cuteness” to the look!

I hope you enjoyed this blog post and now feel inspired to get a little more creative as we head into spring !(She writes as there’s a snow storm outside hahahah 😀 .) Just remember that being arty can be anything you want it to be so just try something new!
