How to Find out Who You Really Are

It’s weird isn’t it ? How despite living in a world fuelled by social media and the constant need for new information; we’re still learning to stay true to ourselves and to find out who we really are :D. It’s most certainly not an easy task to find out who you are but once you do, you somehow become much happier and more comfortable within your own skin. I’m not saying that I’m an expert in helping to find your true personality, but over the years of developing into the person I have become, I have found ways that seem to really work wonders.

Experimenting

Okay, so this title may lead to a misnomer, in no way shape or form do I mean experiment in a liberal sense but more on a personal level. Experimenting with your personality doesn’t mean that you suddenly go wild and reckless; it just means that you branch out of your comfort zone and try something new. For example, try socialising with people that you wouldn’t usually socialise with. Or maybe try wearing clothes outside of your wardrobe norm; and maybe even try visiting a totally new place which isn’t on your radar! Experimenting can seem daunting at times, of course it would, because naturally you’re trying something you would never usually dream of ๐Ÿ˜‰ . But, I always found that my best experiences came from being pleasantly surprised after trying something new and unusual! Be open minded though! There is no point in trying something new if you already think you won’t like it even before you get there.

After experimenting for a while, you’ll learn the things that you really do love and the things that you like a little less. It will help you specialise into the person that you really are and the person you could be. It’s not easy finding your identity but once you do, you’ll find that you will enjoy every experience much more! ๐Ÿ˜€

Mind Space

So this is something that I only really learnt about recently, but oh my how have I never thought of this earlier?! Living a really busy life is fun don’t get me wrong, meeting up with friends, doing sport and just keeping yourself busy prevents yourself from being bored hahaha ๐Ÿ˜‰ .But it does get exhausting running around all the time and being in the presence of other people constantly. I guess it’s a blessing to be busy, but one does need some down time and personal space. Recently after being so busy running around like a loose head chicken (quite literally ๐Ÿ˜‰ ) I began to realise that I really needed to take a step back and just relax. ย I usually like to give myself one day in a week where I just relax and do the things that I want to do, such as read a book, watch tv, do a little cooking, I’m sure you get the jist ๐Ÿ˜€ . These short introverted periods of time give your mind a little break and to allow your own thoughts to flow without the influence of the people around you. This means that you’re able to process your thoughts more clearly and truly understand what you really want. ย Understanding yourself is the key to finding out who you really are because you need to understand what you truly want and not what other people want from you.

Confidence

So this is a strange one, confidence such an important feature that we should all have, but it can be hard to come by! Not just to help find out who you are, but for life in general! I believe that it comes in two forms, the confidence to try something new and the confidence to say no and stand up to things you disagree on. Trying something new is always scary because you have no idea what the hell you’re getting yourself into haha ๐Ÿ˜‰ , in this situation everything seems a little like marmite. You’ll either love it or hate it. It’s a risk that everyone should be taking because how do you know if you would like something if you haven’t tried it yet? Naturally, it can be a scary task to step so far out of your comfort zone; but all of this exploration helps you discover who you are !

The other kind of confidence is the ability to say no or to stand up to matters that you disagree on. Many people find it hard to say no just because they don’t want to disappoint the people around them and to hurt anyone’s feelings. Yes of course it is important to be mindful of the people around you and to think about what you say carefully in order not to hurt anyone. However, there is no point in hurting yourself to please others; this will neither benefit you or lead to your happiness. In my opinion, it is much better to say no kindly than to hurt yourself un-necessarily in order to please others. Being able to say no means that you’re able to voice your opinions which is so important when you’re trying to establish your own personality. Be selfless but not so selfless that you start to hurt yourself!

It feels so nice to be writing more of a deep blog post alongside my usual outfit posts! Let me know what you think because I would be so so happy to write more! <3 I hope this post will help you in some way or in figuring out who you are or just to develop your personality !

I’ll see you all in my next post! Lot’s of love, Izzy xx
