(Grilled Pork with A Spicy Tomato Dressing)

For my Dad’s birthday, of course I wanted to take him out somewhere nice but not too formal because I always find that going somewhere too formal is always off putting when eating. With that in mind, I decided to take him to The Magazine, a small restaurant that is part of the Serpentine Gallery in the heart of Hyde Park. It’s in the perfect location to go on a nice stroll before your meal to work up an appetite, plus you can then walk the meal off afterwards too! 😛 .

To start with we both went for a stunning Mediterranean smoked chicken with an aubergine puree. It was absolutely delicious and the portion sizes were also pretty decent! For mains my Dad had a classic sirloin steak with curly kale topped with toasted almonds and pomegranate. I went for grilled pork belly with a Mediterranean spicy tomato dressing and crispy sprouting broccoli. Apparently the steak was lovely and my pork was just as good! The food may have been cooked simply but the flavours and textures that were incorporated were fab!

When you first arrive at the restaurant offer you a complimentary cocktail that comes with the brunch set menu; both my dad and I decided to go for a Prosecco based drink that had spiced undertones. According to my Dad, it had an Italian summer drinks kind of  vibe; but I’m no wine or drinks expert but take this from me, it tasted very good! 😀 We of course also decided to go for bread because you just can’t go wrong with bread a little olive oil.

For me , the dessert was the star dish of the day, it was a stunning almond profiterole filled with almond praline and vanilla ice cream. I mean doesn’t that sound insanely good?! It was definitely the best way to finish the meal!

I generally don’t like to write much when it comes to food posts because I feel like photos say much more than words in this case. If you are ever in Hyde Park and want to go somewhere to have a nice lunch or brunch then I would definitely suggest The Magazine! 🙂
